Wyatt’s sizzling shooting leads Mercer to 50 point win in Meadville final

Mercer senior shooting guard Lindsay Wyatt hit seven 3-point shots on Saturday night, part of a 31 point night that led the Lady Cardinals to a 73-23 win over Hale in the championship game of the Meadville Invitational Tournament.  Adding 14 points to the winning cause was Bailey Owens, while Nicole Kost added 10.

The Mercer girls, losers of just one game this season (St. Joseph Central at NCMC Holiday Hoops) head into a three-game week of HDC Conference competition, playing host to Winston on Tuesday, traveling to North Harrison on Friday, and playing Newtown-Harris on Saturday in quarterfinal round play at the HDC Conference Tournament in Winston.

The boys final at Meadville saw a mild upset, as the #2 seeded Northwestern Eagles won the “Battle of Eagles” against #1 seed, host school Meadville, 62-59 in overtime.  Garrett Johnson paced Northwestern with 30 points while Wade Adams added 11.  For MHS, Ryan Young had 27 points with Dillon Seckington adding 17.

The third place and consolation finals were played on Friday night at Meadville High School, with the Tina-Avalon girls taking third place over Meadville, 44-38, while the Mercer boys rebounded from a ten-point loss to Northwestern in Thursday’s semifinals with a 58-44 win over Linn County in the third place game.

The Grundy R-5 girls won their consolation final against Northwestern, 53-48, while the Tina-Avalon Dragons shut down Bucklin-Macon County to win the boys consolation game, 47-22.
