Several of the top boys and girls wrestling programs in the region converged on Marceline High School on Saturday for the annual “Tiger Mat Classic”. Gallatin, Brookfield, and Marceline each finished the day with a pair of individual boys champions, with South Harrison and Trenton each having one atop the afternoon podium.
The champions from Gallatin High School were Nicolas Larson at 106 pounds and Eli Sperry at 132. First-place finishers from Marceline were Gunner Evans at 165 pounds and Marcos Black at 175. Champions from Brookfield were Trayce Switzer at 144 pounds and Devan Parn at 190.
From Trenton High School, Jacob White was the champion at 120 pounds, with South Harrison’s Crae Coffey taking the crown at 215 pounds.
The Macon Tigers and Moberly Spartans each had two champions, with Lawson and Versailles having one each.
Trenton had a pair of runner-up finishes, from Cooper Houser at 126 pounds and Mason Rongey at 138.
In the girls division, Gallatin and Brookfield each had two champions, with Gallatin’s championships from Abigail Parker at 190 pounds and Miah Parker at 235. Brookfield’s winners were Jayden Keller at 110 pounds and Riley Howell at 145. Howell beat Trenton’s Avery Clark in the 145 pound championship match, as the THS senior settled for a second-place showing.
Kylie Moore of Marceline won the 105 pound weight class, with Haidyn Umphry of South Harrison taking the title at 130.
There also was a “B” division in both the girls and boys wrestling tournaments at Marceline. No official team scores were kept.
