Embroiled in an ongoing contract negotiation with the Kansas City Chiefs, veteran All-Pro safety Eric Berry did not report to the first day of training camp for the team, Friday in St. Joseph.
Berry has been seeking a long-term deal from the Chiefs, but was designated as the team’s franchise player. Â Having not yet signed a contract, Berry cannot be disciplined for skipping camp. Â If or perhaps more-so when the contract (one year at 10.8 million dollars) is signed, Berry would, at least for 2016, be the highest-paid safety in the National Football League.
The first-full squad workout for the Chiefs is scheduled for today (Saturday) at Missouri Western State University. Â Neither Head Coach Andy Reid or General Manager John Dorsey discussed the Berry situation on Friday.
