Winston, Mercer remain top-ranked, Trenton Lady Bulldogs move up to #4 in MBCA poll

The Missouri Basketball Coaches Association’s most recent poll, released on Friday morning, has moved the 20-2 Trenton Lady Bulldogs up two more spots, with Brian Upton’s squad now ranked #4 in Class 3.  Two squads that remain unbeaten as the calendar moves toward mid-February, Strafford (23-0) and St. James (21-0) remain in the top-two spots in the poll, followed by Boonville, ranked #3 with a season record of 17-2.

The Clark County Lady Indians, who Trenton saw head-to-head in a pre-season jamboree at Kirksville in November, is ranked #9, with Monroe City in the 10 position.

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets, now 20-1 on the season after MEC wins over Maryville and Savannah this week, remain ranked #2 in Class 4, behind just Incarnate Word Academy.  St. Joseph Benton is ranked #9, while St. Pius Tenth, a postseason nemesis for Chillicothe, is ranked #8. 

In Class 5 girls, Jefferson City remains ranked #1, while the only school to beat Chillicothe this season, Columbia Hickman, sits at #7.

The Mercer Lady Cardinals will spend another week on top of the Class 1 state rankings.  Mercer will play North Harrison tonight at Winston High School in the championship game of the HDC Conference Tournament.  Jefferson is ranked at 4, Norborne 5, Mound City 7, Rock Port 8, and South Nodaway #9 in the latest rankings.

Clopton leads Class 2 girls, with Scotland County at #7 and Santa Fe #8 this week.

The Winston Redbirds stranglehold on the #1 spot in Class 1 will last another week, with the Redbirds set to host Mercer in the HDC Conference championship game tonight (Friday night).  Glasgow sits at #5 and Mercer #10 in the MBCA poll.

Thayer is ranked #1 and defending state champion Hartville #2 in Class 2.  Wellington-Napoleon is ranked 4th, Salisbury 5th, Knox County 7th, and Stanberry 10th.  Stanberry plays at Trenton against the GRC champion Bulldogs on Friday night at 7:30 on KTTN FM 92.3.

Cardinal Ritter leads Class 3 boys, with the Lawson Cardinals at #10.  Vashon is top-ranked in Class 4, with Lee’s Summit West on top of the Class 5 state poll.
