The Kansas Jayhawks, bolstered by a go-ahead 3-point shot by freshman Jalen Wilson with 42 seconds to play, defeated the Creighton Bluejays 73-72 on Tuesday afternoon at Phog Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence.
The win for Kansas, ranked #5 in this week’s Associated Press poll, pushes KU to 5-1 on the season, as Wilson finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Christian Braun added 14 points and David McCormack 13.
Creighton, ranked #8 in the country, falls to 3-1 on the season. The ‘Jays had Marcus Zegaroswski with 16 points. Denzel Mahoney had 19 points to lead CU (3-1) with Christian Bishop and Damien Jefferson both tallying 13. Zegarowski, with Creighton down 73-70 in the final seconds, was fouled on a three-point shot, but needing to make all three free throws, he missed on the final attempt, giving the Jayhawks the win.
Kansas has beaten Creighton five times in a row.
