Ethan Green of Penney (Hamilton) High School and Lathan Croy of Trenton High School both finished in the top 15 on Tuesday, winning medals as the Class 2 state golf tournament was completed in Fremont Hills.
Green shot a two-day total of 158 for a 12th place finish, while Croy, a THS junior, had a two-day score of 160 to finish in a 14th place tie with Jake VanRonzelen of Blair Oaks. Â Croy improved his score by four strokes on Tuesday, shooting a 78 after firing an 82 on Monday.
Hermann High School won the state championship in tiebreaker fashion over Palmyra, with both teams shooting 627 over the tournament. Â Bishop LeBlond was third (649) and Maryville fifth (673).
Jack Parker of Tolton Catholic won the individual championship with a total score of 140, one stroke better than Hank Lierz of LeBlond. Brooks Jungbluth of LeBlond, the leader coming into the final day of the season after a 67 on Monday, faded to 4th place, struggling to a round of 79 on Tuesday.
For Trenton, Nate Swann shot an 82 on Tuesday, two better than his Monday round of 84, with the score of 166 placing the Bulldog senior in a four-way tie for 23rd place. Â Fellow THS senior Corbyn Guile bounced back from Monday scuffles to shoot an 84 in his final day representing the Bulldogs. Â The 84 was 13 strokes better than the 97 that Guile shot on Monday. Â The total of 181 placed Corbyn in 53rd place.
