The Trenton Bulldog wrestling team looked solid on Thursday night, with Coach Charlie Bacon calling it “a great opening night”, in a trip to Cameron High School for duels with the Cameron Dragons, Mid-Buchanan Dragons, and Albany Warriors.

In the Bulldogs first dual was against Cameron, THS lost 43 to 30, but there is more to that story.  Trenton ended up winning 6 matches, while Cameron won five. The rest of the points were scored from the Bulldogs open weight classes.
Brice Gibler at 132 got the ball rolling for us picking up a huge win.  Following Gibler, the Bulldogs freshmen stepped up in a big way. Kaden Owen went out and got the pin against Tristin Brown in the 3rd period at 152. Tyler Siemer went out at 160 and picked up a 3-0 victory. At 170, Noah Lewis kept the ball rolling with a huge pin over Keegan Reynolds.  Jarvis Collis also picked up a big win at heavyweight. It was a really exciting dual and if we would have had a few more spots filled in the line up it would have been even better.

The girls dual was just as good as the boys action. Senior Teresa Burkholder lead the way locking up a cradle against her opponent and securing the pin at 131. Teresa becomes the first victory for the Trenton girls wrestling team and she did it in tremendous fashion. Libby Fewins followed suit in the second match of the dual picking up a pin over her opponent. Ann Airey was the third Lady Bulldog to take the mat for us and wrestled a really good match, but got caught in the end ending the match.

The other two duals were short due to opens. Mid Buchanan still had a lot of kids out because of the long football season, but for Trenton Tyler Siemer and Noah Lewis picked up solid wins in the Mid Buch dual. In the Albany dual Payden McCullough at 145 looked really good picking up the fall in 16 seconds. Dakota Wendt also got his first varsity win as a Bulldog at 138. Kaden Owen, Jadan Whitney, who only got 1 match tonight, and Jarvis Collis ended the night with 3 pins. Trenton next wrestles in Saturday’s Marceline Tournament, starting at 9:30 AM.
