The Trenton Bulldogs traveled to Stanberry High School on Thursday night, participating in a quadrangular, joining fellow Grand River Conference member schools Stanberry and North Andrew, along with the Rock Port Blue Jays. The visiting Bulldogs had one of their most successful nights of the season, going 3-0 in duals, although there were a large amount of forfeits sprinkled throughout the night’s action.
Against Rock Port, Trenton wrestled three matches, winning two. Stanberry and Trenton split eight matches contested on the mats, while against North Andrew, both the Bulldogs and Cardinals took one win each, with only two matches going to the mat.
Highlights for Trenton included the 100th career victory for senior Mason Owen, in a 15-4 major decision over Stanberry’s Zach Oldham at 220 pounds, and the first win at the varsity level for 120 pounder Canyon VonBurg, by pin of Remington Stoner of Rock Port at 4 minutes, 21 seconds.
Trenton will be among the Grand River Conference wrestling teams headed for Albany High School on Saturday morning, as the Warriors host the Grand River Conference Wrestling Tournament in the Warriors gymnasium. Matches will begin at 9:30, with Gallatin’s team coming into the meet as the heavy favorite to repeat as GRC champions, with the GHS Bulldogs boasting a talented and ,more importantly for team point purposes, deep squad.
