The Trenton boys wrestling team had one victory and four defeats in a dual tournament hosted by the Cameron Dragons on Saturday.  Coach Charlie Bacon said the duals were “fairly close”, but giving up five open weight classes was hard to overcome.  Bacon added that each wrestler on the team had “really good moments, but there were “a lot of areas that can be improved”.

Trenton’s lone team victory was over the Plattsburg Tigers 38-27.  Trenton losses were to Savannah 34-27, Marceline 46-15, Chillicothe 48-30, and Cameron 48-27.

Top Bulldog performances were….Mason Rongey 4-1 at 132 pounds, with three victories via pin and one by forfeit.  Brayden Hughs was 4-1 at 138 pounds, with two triumphs by pin, one by technical fall, and one by points decision.

Hunter McAtee was 4-1 at 144 pounds, with three pins and a forfeit victory.  Sam Gibson was 4-1 wrestling at both 190 and 215 pounds, with two pins and two forfeits.  At heavyweight, Gavin Cagle was 3-1, with two points and a major decision.  Gavin Chambers was 3-2 at 150 pounds, with victories coming via pin, tech fall, and decision.

Trenton’s wrestlers will be in a three-team triangular with Marceline and Polo on Thursday night, before traveling to the Chillicothe Tournament on Saturday.

On Thursday afternoon, the Bulldogs swept GRC rival Maysville and the MRVC’s Carrollton Trojans in dual action.  The victories improved Charlie Bacon’s squad to 9-1 on the season.  Coach Bacon described the “match of the night” at 150 pounds, with Gavin Chambers of the Bulldogs against Brendan Barton of the Wolverines.  With the match going to “sudden victory”, Chambers hit a double leg and scored two points for a 15-13 victory.  Trenton defeated Maysville 36-12 and Carrollton 48-12.
