The Trenton High School wrestlers, in their first mat action in nine nights, went 1 and 2 in competition against Lathrop, Marceline, and Plattsburg at the Lathrop High School gymnasium. Â The Bulldogs started out against Lathrop and performed, according to Head Coach Charlie Bacon, “sloppily”, while the Mules were “ready to wrestle”. Â Coach Bacon added that the duel looked “winnable for the Bulldogs if they had wrestled well”.
At 195 points, Jadan Whitney picked up a win against a strong wrestler from the Mules (Luke Douglas by 3-1 decision). Mason Owen also came out and took care of business, pinning Quentin Wolfe in 4 minutes, 18 seconds.
Trenton’s second dual was against Marceline, again with one of the strongest teams in north central Missouri. Â For the Bulldogs, Eric Lovett picked up a much needed win along with Jadan Whitney. Â Lovett, at 145 pounds, pinned Colton Nelson at the 4 minute and 53 second mark. Â Whitney pinned Seth Cupp at 2 minutes and 25 seconds. Â Mason Owen, at 220 pounds, lost an 8-3 decision to D.J. Gerhart, the #3 ranked wrestler in the state.
The Bulldogs third dual was against Plattsburg, where we picked up the dual win 45-30. Brenden Johnson and Daniel Rodriguez picked up two wins for Trenton in the lighter weights. Â Freshman Noah Lewis stepped up and got a big win for us and, according to Coach Bacon, “really looked solid”. Jadan Whitney, Mason Owen, and Cole Little all got wins by fall to seal the deal against Plattsburg.

Trenton, on Friday night and continuing into the day on Saturday, is scheduled to wrestle in the “Battle of Lexington” tournament to be contested at the Wentworth Military Academy gymnasium in Lexington. Â It is the final competition of 2016 for the THS wrestlers.
