St. Pius X finished in first place, followed by Trenton, Chillicothe, and Marceline in Saturday afternoon’s Chillicothe boys wrestling tournament. St. Pius racked up 179 1/2 points, some 37 1/2 more than Trenton’s 142. Chillicothe had 134 and Marceline 131, followed by Savannah, Macon, Southern Boone, Maryville, Boonville, and tenth place Gallatin.
First-place finishers from the immediate area included Trenton’s Sam Gibson, with three pins in three matches at 190 pounds. Chillicothe dominated the heavier weight classes, with Brock Miller winning the title at 215 and Bo Smith at heavyweight. Eli Sperry won the 106 pound weight class for Gallatin, with fellow Bulldog Draven Wright taking the crown at 144 pounds.
All nine of Trenton’s wrestlers had at least one victory, including Hunter McAtee with a 3-1 record at 144 pounds for runner-up honors, Brayden Hughs runner-up at 138 with a 2-1 mark, Mason Rongey third at 126 with a 3-1 record, and Gavin Chambers 2-1 for a third place finish at 150.
Cooper Houser at 120 pounds and Brayden Wiggins at 165 both went 2-2 in splitting their tournament battles. Logan Wilson at 175 and heavyweight Gavin Cagle had matching marks of 1-2.

On Thursday evening, Trenton had a strong performance at Marceline High School, defeating Polo 45-15, but having a number of open weights hurt in a tight dual with the host Tigers, falling 33-24.
