Trenton wins GIT title with strong defensive effort

In a championship game broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs downed Gallatin on Saturday afternoon 38-31, taking the title at the annual Gallatin Invitational Tournament.  For THS, Kaylor Hodge had 16 points with Astrid Soriano adding 11.  Kallie Salmon was the only Gallatin player in double figures. 

The win keeps Trenton unbeaten going into the GRC opener with South Harrison, set for Tuesday night at 6 o’clock from THS on KTTN.  Gallatin will open conference play with a home date against Polo, with two losses on the early season ledger, but a runner-up finish in the GIT.  

In other GIT action from the weekend, Maysville’s boys beat Braymer 56-44 in the Saturday championship game, with Gallatin salvaging third place, as the Bulldog boys beat Polo 55-50 on Saturday afternoon. 

The consolation finals went to the North Harrison girls over Braymer 59-53 with the Trenton boys downing Winston 49-41 (on KGOZ FM 101.7).  The Gilman City girls downed Winston in the third place contest 52-30. 

The 7th annual Tri-Rivers Classic Tournament wrapped up at Schuyler County High School, with championships to the North Shelby Lady Raiders and Schuyler County Rams, as the Rams beat Scotland County for the boys title 57-48, with the Lady Raiders downing Milan on Friday night 45-40. 

Third place went to the Clark County Indians and Knox County Lady Eagles, with the Clark County boys beating Putnam County 55-46 while the Lady Eagles claimed a 40-37 win over rival Scotland County. 

The consolation championships (5th place) went to the Brookfield girls, courtesy of a 47-37 win over Putnam County, and the Brookfield boys, with a 57-43 win over Milan. 

Seventh place went to the Knox County boys, 58-50 over the Schuyler County JV, and the Clark County girls, with a 66-32 decision against Schuyler County. 

The Princeton Tigers took double championships in the Albany Tournament, as in action from Saturday night, heard on KTTN FM 92.3, the Lady Tigers downed King City 49-30, as Addilyn Henke had 23 points and Audrey Kelly 11 for Princeton.  Wylie McKinnon had 22 for King City.  The Princeton boys took down King City 57-42, with Clay Evans scoring 28 and Hunter Lowrey 17 for the Tigers.  Landon Carlson had 24 for the Wildkats. 

Platte Valley swept the third place games at Albany, with the PV boys beating North Andrew 61-55 and the PV girls taking a 38-36 win over Albany.  The Albany boys won the consolation final against Pattonsburg 52-31 with the Worth County girls downing Stanberry for the consolation hardware 44-35. 

From the Savannah Tournament, the championships went to the Kearney boys (over Platte County) and Chillicothe girls, 40-24 over Savannah.  The Maryville girls and Chillicothe boys (62-46 over Savannah) took third place.  Fifth place went to the South Harrison girls, 64-58 over Raytown South, and the Maryville girls (win over Smithville).  The South Harrison boys took a seventh place win over Hogan Prep 60-54. 

The championships in the Novinger Tournament were taken by the Green City girls and boys, with the girls final over La Plata 76-37, with the Gopher boys beating the North Missouri Knights. 

The Grundy R-V/Newtown-Harris girls rallied for a third place win over Friday night over Novinger 34-31.   The Grundy/Newtown boys lost Saturday night’s third place game to Atlanta 70-34.  The consolation finals went to the North Missouri girls (47-32 vs. Atlanta) and the Novinger boys (74-64 vs. La Plata). 

The championship trophies in the Platte Valley Invitational Tournament, awarded Friday night at Bearcat Arena in Maryville, went to Nodaway Valley, with a 64-25 win over Northeast Nodaway in the girls game, and a 56-44 triumph over Stewartsville/Osborn in the boys contest.
