Through two matches earlier in the week to begin the 2018 volleyball season, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs had struggled to grab and keep momentum, falling in straight sets to the Cameron Dragons and Lawson Cardinals.  Although the result was the same on Thursday night, a loss, this time to rival Chillicothe, the improvement shown by the Lady Bulldogs could provide the momentum Amanda King’s squad is craving, as they push into the season’s second week searching for victory #1.

In one of the most thrilling matches in the volleyball rivalry between the Hornets and Bulldogs, Trenton got the jump on Chillicothe in the first set, winning 25-17, only to see CHS return the favor in the second set, winning by an identical score of 25-17.  The third set provided thrill after thrill for the spectators at the Trenton gymnasium, with the Lady Bulldogs, despite a superb overall effort, eventually succumbing by a third-set score of 26-24.

Providing the visiting Hornets with the matches biggest points was Kennedie Kieffer, a net presence for Chillicothe that racked up 12 kills in the match.  Kaylee Lewis had 11 kills, and Devin Dowell six for Chillicothe.  For Trenton, Karli Provorse had 14 digs to go with 10 kills, Melea Farmer had 10 assists, Laura Carlson eight digs and four assists, while Allena Allen had eight digs and Teresa Yoder 11 digs for the Lady Bulldogs.

The junior varsity and freshman matches were less dramatic, with the Lady Hornets claiming the JV win in straight sets, 25-10, 25-18, while CHS took the freshman competition, 25-9, 25-11.

Trenton’s season-opening four-game homestand concludes on Tuesday night, with the Lady Bulldogs hosting the Plattsburg Lady Tigers at 5 o’clock inside the THS gym.
