The Trenton Lady Bulldogs have moved to #7 in the state in Class 3, with the latest basketball poll from the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) released on Thursday afternoon. Â After four straight weeks that saw THS move into the poll at #10, and move up one spot, Trenton dropped to #8 on January 19th, before the latest move back up for the 16-2 leaders of the Grand River Conference Eastern Division.
Strafford, the 18-0 defending state champions, remain #1 in Class 3, followed by unbeaten St. James. Â Boonville, a potential Trenton road block in a potential March playoff run, is ranked #5, with a record of 14-2. Â Trenton’s move up the poll pushed the Lady Bulldogs one spot ahead of the Monroe City Lady Panthers, who dropped to #8 with a 14-2 record.
The Mercer girls, with a record of 15-1, remain #2 in Class 1, behind Walnut Grove. Â Jefferson is fourth, Mound City sixth, Higbee 7th, Norborne 8th, Rock Port 9th, and South Nodaway at #10.
Clopton paces Class 2, with Scotland County 7th, Mid-Buchanan 8th, and Santa Fe 10th.
In Class 4, Chillicothe’s Lady Hornets drop one spot to #3, with the Hornets former slot at #2 taken by MICDS. Â Incarnate Word is top-ranked, with St. Joseph Benton at #7. Â A Smithville team that gave Trenton a five point loss (41-36) at NCMC Holiday Hoops on December 28th fell out of the top 10 after being ranked 10th on January 19th.
Jefferson City is ranked #1 in the Class 5 girls poll.
The unbeaten Winston Redbirds are still top-ranked in Class 1, trailed by #2 Walnut Grove, once-beaten #3 ranked Glasgow, the 4th-ranked North Andrew Cardinals, and #5 ranked Scott County Central. Â Braymer and Mercer, two squads that took tournament semifinal losses on Thursday night (Braymer to Trenton and Mercer to Northwestern) are ranked #9 and #10 respectively.
Hartville, the Class 2 boys defending state champion, remains #1 with a 13-4 season record. Â Wellington-Napoleon is fourth, Salisbury 6th, and Knox County #10.
Southern Boone is top-ranked for Class 3 boys, while Vashon and Chaminade hold the top-ranking for Classes 4 and 5.
