The Trenton Lady Bulldogs welcomed the Chillicothe Lady Hornets to the THS tennis courts on Thursday, with Chillicothe putting up a much stiffer challenge in comparison to the rivals first matchup of the season, but the Lady Bulldogs grinding out a 6-3 win, moving to 7-0 in duel play this season.

The key varsity matches that tipped Trenton’s way in the victory were in a thrilling #3 doubles match that went to the team of Alainey Fair and Emma Gilham, over Chillicothe’s Keithley and Zimmerman, 9-8 with a dominant run in the tiebreaker at 7-1.  At #2 singles, Lauren Dolan was able to grab an 8-6 victory over Maelaina Vanfossen, another result that, if Chillicothe had won, could have tipped the duel to the Hornets.

Samantha Mihalovich of Trenton, at #3 singles, downed Hannah Cypert 8-4, with Madi Searcy of THS, at #4 singles, taking an 8-2 win over Danielle Rapp.  Emma Gilham grabbed a win for the Bulldogs at #6 singles, 8-3 over Hunter Keithley.

Chillicothe #1 singles player Gracy Reeter was very strong in an 8-love win over Trenton’s Claire Utley.  Macy Cavanah took a singles victory for CHS, beating Alainey Fair in the #5 match 8-4.

In doubles play, Reeter and Cypert of Chillicothe, in a high-quality match, downed Utley and Dolan 8-6, while Mihalovich and Searcy for Trenton continued their strong season with an 8-2 win over Vanfossen and Rapp.

Trenton won the JV doubles matchup with the Hornets 3-1.  Chillicothe’s lone win came from Gregory and Cavanah (over Neal and Bonta) 6-1.  Trenton’s Johnson and Polk beat Faulkner and Hicks 6-3, Windsor and Eaton (in perhaps the match of the night) winning 7-6, with a 10-8 tiebreak over Lamp and Stover, while Schlatter and Neal downed Distler and McElwee 6-4.
