The Trenton Bulldog boys tennis team had eight first place finishes and took victories over Kirksville and Chillicothe in claiming the championship of the Kirksville Tennis Tournament on Thursday and Friday.
Trenton’s doubles teams played on Thursday, followed by singles competition on Friday. Against Kirksville, the THS doubles teams went 2-1, with Trent Villacampa and Bradyn Sager winning 8-1 over Pike and Cason, with Maverick Sole teaming with Tucker Otto to grind out a 9-7 win over Martin and Peterson. In the #3 doubles match, Kirksville’s Walker and Boyer won a highly competitive match against Victor Markell and Isaac Dixon, with an 9-8 triumph that included a 7-5 tiebreak.
In the head-to-head duel against Chillicothe, the Bulldogs dominated, with Villacampa and Sager winning 8-2 (over Adams and Collins), Sole and Otto cruising 8-1 over Peterson and Trantham, with Markell and Dixon downing Snider and Savage 8-2.
On Friday, the Trenton singles players went a perfect 6-0 against the host Kirksville Tigers, with Villacampa doubling up Pike 8-4, Sager taking an 8-2 win over Cason, Sole beating Martin 8-4, Otto going extra lengths to take a 9-8 win over Peterson (with the tiebreaker going all the way to 13-11). Markell beat Walker 8-6, with Dixon taking an 8-6 win over Mollick.
In singles play against Chillicothe, Trenton went unbeaten, with Villacampa downing Adams 8-1, Sager over Collins 8-3, Sole beating Trantham 8-2, Otto defeating Reeter 8-2, Markell over Snider 8-2, and Dixon over Savage 8-2.
Recognized as 1st place winners from the Kirksville Tournament from Trenton High School were Trent Villacampa (#1 singles), Bradyn Sager (#2 singles), Maverick Sole (#3 singles), Tucker Otto (#4 singles), Victor Markell (#5 singles), Isaac Dixon (#6 singles), and the teams of Villacampa and Sager (#1 doubles) and Sole and Otto (#2 doubles).
