Trenton High School’s softball team continues to establish itself as a clear threat to their opponents dreams of postseason success in district play in ten days, with the Lady Bulldogs looking impressive on Saturday in claiming third place at the Centralia Invitational Tournament.
Playing in the 4 vs 5 quarterfinal on Saturday morning, usually considered the most competitive match-up of an eight-team tournament in the quarterfinals, the Lady Bulldogs hammered North Callaway, rolling to a 16-1 victory. Lexi Whitaker smacked a grand slam home run for THS, with Maci Moore adding a solo shot and a grand slam for the Lady Bulldogs, with McKayla Blackburn earning the victory.
In the Centralia semifinal round, Trenton came up just short against the Macon Tigerettes, falling by a score of 6-5. Earlier in the day, in the quarterfinal round, Macon had ended the unbeaten run of Putnam County, knocking off the GRC champion Midgets by a score of 1-0 in eight innings. Macon went on to lose the championship game to the Mexico Lady Bulldogs.
For Trenton, In the third place game against Hallsville, the Lady Bulldogs took a hard-earned 3-2 win. Senior catcher Lexi Whitaker provided the offensive punch with two home runs, the 16th and 17th of her THS career, while McKayla Blackburn got the victory from the pitching circle. The victory improves Trenton, heading into a Monday night showdown at Marceline, to 13-6 on the season.
