The Trenton Middle School Bulldogs picked up a victory to finish the season at 4-2, with the JV completing the Monday night sweep at Bulldog Stadium in Gallatin with a 20-12 victory.
The final score in the middle school contest was 38-26 in favor of Trenton, with the TMS offense continuing to run at a very high level. Elijah Miller caught an 81 yard strike from Cooper Houser to open the scoring, with Gallatin’s only lead of the night following, as a 52 yard touchdown run and two-point conversion made the score 8-6. Trenton grabbed the advantage by the end of the quarter, as a 21 yard touchdown run by Mathew Bowden and two-point conversion run by Houser making the score 14-8.
Trenton opened up a two score lead in the second quarter on a 5 yard plunge by Michael Baker, only to see Gallatin, on a 39-yard scoop and score off of a TMS fumble, cutting the halftime deficit to 22-14.
Trenton dominated the third quarter, as a 14 yard run by Houser, and 13 yard touchdown run by Baker, pushing the score to 38-14, as the Bulldogs completed both two-point conversion attempts.
Down 38-14 heading into the final quarter, Gallatin made a surge with two rushing touchdowns with failed PAT’s, leaving the final at 38-26.
The JV game started with a Trenton bang, as Brayden Hughs, who finished with 180 all-purpose yards, scored on a 75 yard run, with the Brayden Wiggins PAT pushing the lead to 8-0. Aiden Weyer scored on a 5 yard run early in the second quarter, leaving the score at 14-0, with Gallatin’s special teams getting the Bulldogs on the scoreboard, with a blocked punt and return for touchdown leaving the score at the break at 14-6.
The third quarter saw Gallatin pull to within 14-12 on another big play, as the Bulldogs scored on a 15 yard run, with THS keeping the lead by stopping the PAT. With the Trenton lead down to 2, Hughs had the game’s biggest play, an 85 yard kickoff return for touchdown on the ensuing kick, leaving the final score at 20-12 after both teams went scoreless in the final quarter.
Mason Rongey and Aiden Weyer led a strong effort for the Trenton secondary, both grabbing interceptions in the win. Head coach Jon Guthrie said he believes that the game with Gallatin could be the final contest of the season for the Trenton JV. Low numbers with opponents cost Trenton a couple of games earlier in the season, and while athletic director John Cowling will be working to find an opponent for the final week of the season, that task may prove to be difficult.
