The Trenton Lady Bulldogs dominated the court on Monday night in a Class 1, District 16 first round tennis match with the visiting Lafayette Fighting Irish, take a 5-0 win, sending THS to Maryville this (Tuesday) afternoon, for a 4 o’clock semifinal with the Spoofhounds (at Northwest Missouri State University).
Trenton was particularly strong in singles play against Lafayette, with Kendall Crowley taking the clean sweep of Madison Frakes, 6-love, 6-love, while Emma Gilham claimed a 6-4, 6-love win over Rowan Davis.
In doubles play, the team of Emma Gilham and Lexi Gott downed Rowan Davis and Avery Sumner 8-2, Elle Neal and Latorrie Johnson defeated Frakes and Makayla Tovey 8-1, while Crowley and Morgan Dolan took an 8-1 win over Cierra Bettis and Madyson McMillian.
In the 4 vs 5 first-round matchup in District 16, Benton took a 5-1 over Bishop LeBlond, sending the Lady Cardinals into a 4 o’clock semifinal on Tuesday afternoon at #1 seed Savannah. The semifinal winners play for the District 16 championship on Wednesday afternoon at 4.
In Class 1, District 15, Chillicothe had a first-round bye on Monday night, with Kirksville taking a first-round victory. The Lady Tigers will play in the semifinals on Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock, with top-seeded Marshall hosting Moberly on the top half of the bracket.
