The Trenton boys wrestling team won five of nine matches to reach the mat against Lafayette County and all four matches were contested against Stanberry, en route to victories over both schools on Thursday night at Trenton High School.
Trenton beat Lafayette County 30-16, with Mason Rongey, Brayden Hughs, Hunter McAtee, Gavin Chambers, and Sam Gibson all winning by pin. Higginsville collected a pin, a major decision, and two regular decisions. There were five weight classes in which both teams were open.
Trenton defeated Stanberry 54-12 as Cooper Houser, Mason Rongey, Brayden Hughs, and Hunter McAtee all victorious by pin and Gavin Chambers, Brayden Wiggins, Logan Wilson, Sam Gibson, and Gavin Cage all received forfeit victories.
Stanberry’s Vincent Smithson and Evan Gregory won by forfeit. There were three other weight classes in which both schools were open.
In girl’s action, Trenton’s Avery Clark defeated Higginsville’s Gillian Davenport 7-2. Seven Husker wrestlers won by forfeit, giving Higginsville the 42-3 win.
The Higginsville boys beat Stanberry 48-22. The Huskers won two of three matches reaching the mat. Stanberry’s lone victory of the mat was from Aiden Law by a 14-5 major decision. Stanberry’s Vincent Smithson, Evan Gregory, and Russell Kerwin won by forfeit.

Boys district wrestling tournaments will be held Friday, February 17th, and Saturday, February 18th. Trenton will travel to a tournament hosted by Higginsville. The Stanberry boys will be in an adjacent Class 1 tournament at Lathrop High School.
Girls district wrestling tournaments are this coming weekend (Friday, February 10th, and Saturday, February 11th). Trenton sophomore Avery Clark will travel to North Point High School in the St. Louis suburb of Wentzville for district competition.
