The Trenton varsity basketball teams have one more doubleheader to play before this Saturday’s Grand River Conference Showcase at South Harrison High School in Bethany, with an already once-postponed trip to Milan facing another postponement due to Wednesday night’s ice storm warning.

At this time, Trenton-Milan is expected to be played on Thursday, February 7th, although if road conditions and ice on Highway 6 prove too difficult, Friday is an option for both schools.  The girls game from Milan High School will feature the unbeaten Trenton Lady Bulldogs taking on the up-and-coming Milan Lady Wildcats, with the Lady ‘Cats still having a chance to claim the GRC East title with an upset win in the Den.  In that scenario, both Trenton and Milan would finish 6-1, tied for first place in the GRC East, with Milan having the head-to-head tiebreaking edge.  The GRC East champion will play Stanberry at 7:30 on Saturday night from Bethany on KTTN FM 92.3.  The Trenton-Milan games, when played, will also be carried live on KTTN 92.3.

On Saturday, the Trenton girls took control of their make-up GRC game at Polo early, rolling out to a 26-2 lead in a 60-23 win over the Lady Panthers, Trenton’s 18th consecutive victory.  Ainsley Tolson led THS with 22 points, while Maci Moore had 13.  For the now 8-13 Polo girls, Kelly Baldon had 11 points.

The Milan boys, as they prepare for the late-week visit from Trenton, are locked into Saturday night’s Grand River Conference championship game with North Andrew (9 PM / KTTN FM 92.3), but the Wildcats will be aiming for some payback against the Bulldogs, after THS ended Milan’s unbeaten season in 2017-2018 with a victory on the Trenton High School floor.

Momentum-wise, Trenton lost some on Saturday afternoon, with the Bulldogs struggling in a 50-34 loss at Polo.  The Panthers were paced by Jared Robison with 15 points, Joe Beaver 14, and Jackson Umbaugh with 12.  Max McNabb led Trenton with 11 points, with Dylan Harris scoring eight, and Jaren Whitney seven.  The loss dropped Trenton into the fifth-place game at Saturday’s GRC Showcase in Bethany, and a meeting with the Stanberry Bulldogs at 6 o’clock from the South Harrison MIDDLE School gymnasium.

Saturday’s Trenton-Polo doubleheader was broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.
