With two programs (South Harrison and Gallatin) coming off Final Four appearances in 2023, and two additional power programs in Brookfield and Marceline joining the ranks for 2024, the Grand River Conference looks as tough as ever heading into the fall softball season.
Coming off of a middle-of-the-pack season in 2023, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs have begun practice sessions for the upcoming season, although persistent morning showers have made getting onto the dirt at Griffin Field challenging.
On Monday morning, a planned practice turned into more of a team meeting, with 24 players ready to go for the “Black and Gold” this fall.
Head coach Madi Stillwell spoke with KTTN Sports Director Tom Johnson about the roster challenges and strengths developing in mid-August:Â
Trenton will host a three-team jamboree with visiting Brookfield and Putnam County on Saturday morning, August 24th, with a 9 o’clock start time for that event from Griffin Field at THS.
The regular season opening Cameron Tournament, which includes Trenton High School, will be played on Saturday, August 31st. The GRC opener for the Lady Bulldogs will be Thursday, September 5th, with the South Harrison Lady Bulldogs playing at Trenton in a 5 o’clock contest, with Rod Tompkins providing the play-by-play call on KTTN FM 92.3.
Other early season challenges for THS will include a trip to Princeton on September 9th, a home date with Gallatin on September 10th, a trip to Brookfield on September 12th, and the Benton Tournament in St. Joseph on September 14th.
