The Trenton Lady Bulldogs had some good moments, but also the frustration of a pair of tough, close defeats, participating in the Cameron Tournament on Wednesday.

The top finish for THS came from the #2 doubles entry of Mallory Sole and Alaina Overton, with a runner-up finish, falling in the championship match of Maria Molinari and Aleah Dixon of Platte County, 6-4.  Earlier in the day, Sole and Overton beat Alyssa Pace and Dakotah Haughey of Maryville, 6-3 and Jordan Wittmaier and Allison Adlich of Warrensburg 6-1.  In the third round, Sole and Overton fell to Faith Scheerer and Molly Kretzer of St. Joseph Lafayette, in a 7-6 defeat, with the tiebreaker going to the Fighting Irish 7-5.  That match, instead of being considered a semifinal, was a pool play event, with Sole and Overton’s overall results advancing the Bulldog duo to the final.

The Trenton #1 doubles team of Lexi Gott and Morgan Dolan started the day with a loss in a tiebreaker, falling to Arianne Skidmore and Lauren Cullin of Maryville 7-2, after the teams had split 12 games, each winning six.  Gott and Dolan stormed back for a 6-2 win over Laurel Gostomski and Raegan Horn of Warrensburg, a 6-1 triumph over Erinn Lotspeich and Avery Sumner of Lafayette, and, in the 3rd place match, a 7-5 win over Megan Schussler and Iris Alvarez of Savannah.  That win evened up the season series between the Bulldogs and Savages, as Schussler and Alvarez had beaten Gott and Dolan earlier this month.

In #3 doubles, Trenton’s Lydia Leininger and Jessika Kennedy finished in fifth place, splitting four matches.  In the opener, a hard-fought 7-5 win over Johanne Schommer and Breanna Deering of Maryville was followed in the second match by a 6-1 defeat.  Getting the better of Leininger and Kennedy were Ashlea Martin and Sadie Svedin of Warrensburg.  The third match, also a loss, was closer, with Chloe Morris and Brielle Griffin of Lafayette victorious 6-4.  In the fifth place match, the Trenton team rebounded for a 6-4 win over Frerking and Green of Lafayette County.

In singles play, Trenton’s Harley Hall went 0-4 at the #1 level, falling by 6-love finals to Athena Groumoutis of Maryville, Jessica Snare of Warrensburg, and Rowan Davis of Lafayette.  Hall’s final match of the day was a 6-1 defeat of Olivia Claycomb of Savannah.

At #2 singles, Chloie Hall of Trenton went 1-3.  Her victory came officially by forfeit, in the final match against a Cameron opponent.  Hall lost 6-love to Blake Springer of Maryville, 6-1 to Sydni Sabas of Warrensburg, and 6-1 to Brooklyn Lorenz of Lafayette.
