The Trenton Bulldogs, after giving up a three-run advantage late in Thursday night’s baseball game at Burleigh Grimes Field, rallied with two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, beating the Putnam County Midgets 6-5. The loss is the first of the season for the Unionville team, leaving the Midgets at 12-1, while improving the Bulldogs to 5-7. At 1-1 in the GRC, the Bulldogs sit in third place, one-half game behind Putnam County, and even in the loss column with 4-1 Maysville. Putnam County’s GRC record is 2-1.
Both teams racked up seven hits in the contest, with Trenton’s Remi Olmstead and Collin Taylor each scoring twice, while Aidan Weyer and Graeme Sager added runs. Sager had a pair of base hits for THS, with Elijah Miller adding a pair of hits in four at-bats.
Despite scoring six runs, the Bulldogs only had two RBI’s, grabbed by Mason Rongey and Brayden Wiggins.
Putnam County had a 2-for-4 contest from Kooper Hornaday with a pair of runs scored.
Rongey was solid in the start for Trenton, scattering four hits and allowing one run while walking two batters and striking out four. Miller got the final two outs in the 7th for Trenton, earning the victory after the rally by his offense.
