For the second consecutive contest, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs struggled in the first quarter at the Gallatin Invitational Tournament, trailing Gilman City by a score of 11-4 through eight minutes. However, Trenton scrambled to tie the game by the half, and, with 13 fourth quarter points from sophomore Mirena King, THS won by a score of 46-43.
King scored a game-high 27 points for Trenton, now 2-3 on the season, with Madi Moore scoring 7. Gilman City, falling to 1-3 on the season, was paced by 14 points from Ericka Burke, with 10 points each from Laina Ward and Maddie Malone.Â
In the quarterfinal round, Trenton advanced with a quarterfinal round win over the host Gallatin Lady Bulldogs, 40-37. King had 18 points and Moore 14 for THS, with Gallatin gaining 10 points from Kailee Salmon.
Gallatin’s boys, playing without standout seniors Isaac Bird (illness) and Payton Feiden (foot) for most if not all of their quarterfinal test against Trenton, survived an upset bid from their GRC rivals, winning 61-51.
Gallatin, improving to 2-0 on the season, had 14 points from Durk Stout and Gavin Wilmes, with Boston Bell adding 12, and Layton Shubert 10. Trenton, falling to a 0-3 mark, had 21 points from Kiefer Tolson and 17 from Gabe Novak.
