The Trenton Lady Bulldogs offense, despite being “held” to six runs in a Monday night victory over visiting Lawson, is starting to show signs of consistently and focus, with numerous hard hit softballs pleasing Coach John Cowling in a 6-0 win at Mark Griffin Memorial Field, improving the record of the two-time defending Grand River Conference champions to 10-1.
THS took an early lead on the Lady Cards, with Maci Moore’s two-out double in the first followed by a run-scoring double by Salem Croy. The Lady Bulldogs added two more runs to the advantage in the second inning, with Mykah Hurley scoring on Moore’s single, and Taylor Richman driving around Moore on the back of an RBI single. Leading off the fourth inning, Lexi Whitaker hammered her second home run of the fall season, extending the advantage to four runs.
Up 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th, Trenton found some insurance as a Lawson fielding error scored both Sidney Lynch and Lexi Whitaker, with the Lady Bulldogs gliding home over the final two innings for the win.
Senior Ainsley Tolson continues to dominate from the pitching circle for THS, firing six shutout innings against Lawson, allowing just two hits while striking out seven batters. McKayla Blackburn mopped up in the 7th inning, working around one hit while getting a strikeout of her own.Â
Moore and Whitaker both were 2 for 3 for the Lady Bulldogs, each scoring twice. Hurley, Croy, Richman, Lynch, and Blackburn added the other hits in Trenton’s win.
In the JV game, the Lady Cardinals bested Trenton, 10-6, scoring ten runs over the 3rd and 4th innings to overwhelm a Bulldog side that had scored first, on an opening inning RBI double by Jaycie Griffin, scoring Teya Cooksey. Down 10-1 in the middle innings, Trenton did not make up the entire deficit, but did show fight, scoring five runs late to close the final margin to just four runs. Â
Graycn Ronger was 2 for 3 with a double and RBI, Cooksey scored twice and had three steals, Griffin had a double and RBI, while Morgan King, JilliAnn Nichols, and Shay Westerhof all singled and scored runs for the Lady Bulldog JV.
