The Trenton Middle School track and field teams participated in the St. Joseph Christian Lion Relays on Monday, with the TMS boys finishing in 2nd place overall out of 11 teams, while the Lady Bulldogs, with 50 points, were in fourth place. Other schools in the event were the girls champions from North Platte, Mid-Buchanan, DeKalb, South Holt, West Platte, St. Joseph Christian, Plattsburg, Stewartsville, St. Gregory’s Barbarigo, and Osborn.
Connor Crawford, running for Trenton in the 8th grade 800 meter run, claimed first place in a time of 2:30.44, adding a runner-up finish in the 1600 meters, and a third place effort in the triple jump. Also among the 8th grade boys, Keegan Brown was 2nd in the 100 hurdles, with the 4 by 100 relay team of Elbert, Smith, Harper, and Habelitz in second place. Tyler Siemer finished second in the 200 meter dash.
In the 7th grade boys division, Nicholas Smith took the title in the 100 meter hurdles, with a winning time of 19.08 seconds. The 4 by 200 relay team of Anthony Sanchez, Frankie Halstead, Nicholas Smith, and Ian Elbert were first, with a time of 1:59.41. The 4 by 100 and 4 by 400 relay team both were runners-up on Monday, with Dylan Spencer in second place in the discus, while Ian Elbert was third in the long jump, and Jarek Habelitz third place in the 100 meter dash.
For the TMS Lady Bulldogs, Gracyn Rongey was 2nd in both the 800 meter run and triple jump, while the 4 by 400 relay team was 2nd. It was noted that the Lady Bulldogs fourth-place effort should be commended, with the team dealing with excess illness and injuries in the past few days, limiting their amount of practice time.
The Trenton Middle School track teams will travel to Milan on Thursday (April 26th) for their next event, with field events beginning at 4 o’clock, and running events at 5.
