The Trenton Middle School girls scored 187 points, with the boys racking up 145 points, to win Thursday’s track and field meet at C.F. Russell Stadium. Â The Hamilton girls, with 93 1/2 points, were second, while the South Harrison boys finished a close second to the host TMS Bulldogs, with 129 points scored.
In individual results, Hamilton sweep the high jump titles, with Julia Kanoy winning the girls event, and Spencer Galbraith taking the boys title. Â In the pole vault, Trenton 8th grader Evie Dowell and South Harrison 7th grader Braden Spurling took the titles. Â The Trenton girls picked up a win over 8th grader Emma Curtis in the long jump, with South Harrison 8th grader Braydon Sunderman taking the long jump title for the boys. Â The triple jump titles went to Trenton in a sweep, with 8th graders Maci Moore and Quincy Griffin victorious. Â Maci Moore was joined by Gallatin 8th grader Gage Wright in taking the discus titles, with Moore taking the shot put win, along with South Harrison’s Colby Yslas.
The hurdle sprint events went to Hamilton 8th grader Brighton Swindler (100 meter hurdles) and Trenton 8th grader Camdyn Leeper (100 meter hurdles).
Trenton 8th grader Kristi Ewing won the 100 meter girls race, with South Harrison’s Yslas winning the boys title in that sprinting category. Â The Trenton girls (Lexi Gott, Emilee Lovell, Emma Curtis, Gwyneth Foster) won the 4 by 200 meter relay (2:07.03), joined by the South Harrison boys. The winners in the 1600 meter races were Gallatin 8th grader Claire Hemry and Hamilton 8th grader Sawyer Morrow.
Trenton’s girls team of Kristi Ewing, Gwyneth Foster, Maci Moore, and Lexi Gott won the 4 by 100 relay (55.93 seconds), with the South Harrison boys beating Trenton by 2 1/2 seconds to take the 4 by 100 title. Â
In the 400 meter races, Hamilton 8th grader Julia Kanoy and Trenton 8th grader Camdyn Leeper took the 1st place slots. Â Claire Hemry of Gallatin and Chase Otto of Trenton (both 8th graders) won the 800 meter races. Â Trenton swept the 200 meter dashes, as 8th graders Kristi Ewing (29.55) and Quincy Griffin (28.33) taking the wins. Â Gott, Curtis, McCollough, and Foster of TMS won the 4 by 400 relay, while the Trenton boys entry of Austin Bouzek, Gavin Roeder, Canyon VonBurg, and Camdyn Leeper won the 4 by 400 race, in 4:22.29.
Other highlights of the day for the Trenton girls was a 2nd place high jump finish for Lexi Gott, 3rd place for Evie Dowell in the triple jump (to go with her win in the pole vault), runner-up spot in the long jump for Gwyneth Foster, second place in the mile and 3rd place in the 100 hurdles for Janessa Van Hoozer, third place for Grace Kennebeck in the mile, runner-up in the 800 meter run by Haylee Coplen, and third place in the 800 meter run for Gracyn Rongey.
The Trenton Middle School Quad was contested in “less than ideal” conditions, with harsh winds making things challenging for the young athletes at C.F. Russell Stadium. Â The next track meet for the Trenton 7th and 8th graders will be Monday at South Harrison, with competition starting at 3:45.
