The Trenton Lady Bulldogs remained one game back of the first-place mark established by Milan, improving to 2-1 in Grand River Conference play at 5-6 overall with a 33-17 victory at Gallatin on Tuesday night.

In the front end of a varsity doubleheader broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7, Trenton’s offense started slow, held scoreless for nearly the first five minutes of the opening quarter, but a 7-0 lead gave THS a 7-2 lead, an advantage they never gave up.

Mirena King led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points, while her older sister Morgan had nine points, connecting on a trio of three-point shots.  Now through the Gallatin road test to open 2022, Lady Bulldog head coach Kameron Cool knows that a win on Friday night at Maysville would give his team a chance to battle for first place in the division in two weeks, when Milan and Polo visit his team’s home gymnasium:

Trenton defeated Maysville on a buzzer-beating three point shot by Teya Cooksey in the Gallatin Tournament semifinal round in early December.

Gallatin’s girls, now 0-9 on the season and 0-3 in GRC play, had four points each from Alex Endicott, AnnaBelle Ball, and Elle Copple.

Coach Cool was able to return Cooksey to the floor on Tuesday night, albeit in a limited role, in the senior’s first action since injuring her knee nearly a month ago against Chillicothe:

The Gallatin boys, for the second time this season, rolled past rival Trenton, winning on Tuesday night 67-36, improving to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the GRC.

Isaac Bird led the Bulldogs with 24 points, with 20 of those in a first half that saw GHS burst out to a 25-8 lead after one quarter, and 54-18 at the half.  Peyton Feiden had 10 points for Gallatin.  For Trenton, now 0-11 overall and 0-3 in the GRC, sophomore guard Gabe Novak had 10 points, with freshman guard Kiefer Tolson adding 7.

Gallatin’s girls and boys will host Polo on Tuesday night.  Elsewhere in the GRC’s Eastern Division, Princeton visits South Harrison, with coverage on KTTN FM 92.3, while Milan make the trek to Putnam County.
