The Trenton junior varsity girls had a balanced scoring effort and opened the season with a 13-2 first quarter run, beating the Cameron Dragons on Monday night by a score of 41-14. Using a ‘trapping’ defense, Trenton was able to pressure Cameron into numerous early game turnovers, resulting in back-away baskets. THS led 23-4 at halftime. Haley Kidd led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points, while Maci Moore had nine, Allena Allen eight, and Saedee Jackson seven points. Lexi Whitaker added five steals and four assists.
Coach John Cowling said, “It was good to finally play someone besides our varsity starters. I thought Lexi, McKayla and Haley did a great job defensively on the front of our press and the girls did a great job sharing the ball tonight.”
The Trenton JV boys lost to Cameron 50-25. The Bulldogs fell behind in the early minutes 16-2, and while showing some stabilization in the second quarter, the halftime advantage for the Dragons was 29-16. A 5-0 in the third quarter brought the Bulldogs within eight points of the lead, but THS never got closer. Camdyn Leeper paced Trenton with 10 points, while Brycin Loyd had six points.
Boys JV coach Kameron Cool said, “The boys worked really hard. We have a lot of things we need to improve, but the effort was there.”
The Trenton JV girls play at East Buchanan tonight (Tuesday night) at 5 o’clock, with both JV teams hosting Putnam County on Monday, November 27th, with girls at 6 o’clock, followed by the boys.
