The Trenton junior varsity girls dominated Thursday night’s game against South Harrison, winning 55-7 in the semifinal round of the Gallatin JV Tournament. Trenton led 28-0 at the half and gave up their only points of the game in the third quarter.
THS was led by Haley Kidd with 17 points, while McKayla Blackburn and Saedee Jackson each had 14. Head Coach John Cowling said, “I was happy with how hard we played. We did a great job sharing the ball!”. The Lady Bulldog JV, now 7-0 on the season, will play for the Gallatin Tournament championship at 12:30 on Saturday afternoon.
The Trenton JV boys were unable to win their semifinal against South Harrison, but THS continued to show rapid improvement, falling by a score of 39-36. The 3 point loss came one month to the day after South Harrison beat Trenton by nearly 30 points.
Thursday night’s rematch was tight throughout, with Trenton trailing by three points (12-9) at the end of one quarter and by six points (24-18) at halftime. The lead shrunk to five points (28-23) after three quarters of play.
JV Coach Kameron Cool was proud of his Trenton team, praising his boys for “how hard they competed”, and “showing what we are capable of playing like when we put in the work”.
Matt Sibbit led Trenton with 13 points, with Dalton Burchett adding nine points.
Trenton will play Maysville in the third place game at 11:15 on Saturday morning at the Gallatin High School gymnasium.
