The Trenton Bulldogs beat the Savannah Savages in junior varsity football action on Tuesday night by a score of 40-32. The Bulldogs, behind a pair of touchdown runs (12 yards and 1 yard) by Brayden Wiggins, and an 11 yard scoring run by Aiden Weyer, took a 20-0 lead into the locker room.
Savannah got back into the game in the third quarter, with an 80 yard kick return for touchdown and a 1 yard drive sandwiched by a 1 yard plunge by Wiggins of THS pushing the margin to 26-16, as Savannah made both of its two-point conversions, with Trenton failing on its attempt.
Trenton extended the lead to 34-16 early in the fourth quarter, on a 20-yard touchdown run by Collin Taylor, and a two-point pass to Gavin Chambers. A 60 yard scoring strike by the Savages cut the lead to 34-24, with a five yard touchdown pass from Trenton’s Taylor to Remi Olmstead, and a 40 yard touchdown run by Savannah, completing the night’s scoring.
For Trenton, Brayden Hughs had 84 yards rushing, with Weyer adding 62 yards, Wiggins 55, Taylor 43, and Cameron Christy 33 yards on the ground, as the Bulldogs amassed, in total, 305 yards on the ground. Trenton will host Putnam County in the next JV game on Monday night, September 20th at C.F. Russell Stadium.
