Trenton grapplers split matches at Lexington Tournament

The Trenton High School wrestling team had two wins and two losses on Saturday in a dual tournament hosted by Lexington High School.  The Bulldogs finished second overall based on criteria.

Trenton beat Lexington 48-33 and defeated Brookfield 47-36.  Trenton fell to the Lawson Cardinals 36-30 and were tripped up by Sherwood 39-36.

Top THS finishers included Hunter McAtee, Brice Gibler, and Caleb Johnson.  Each was 4-0 on the day.  McAtee had three pins and a forfeit at 106 pounds.  Gibler earned two pins, a decision, and a forfeit at 126, while Johnson recorded two pins and two forfeits at 220 pounds.

Trenton’s Kaden Owen, Coleman Griffin, and Mark Trump all were 3-1.  Trump had three pins and 182 pounds.  Owen won by two pins and a technical fall at 152.  Griffin had two pins and a forfeit win at 132 pounds.

Payden McCullough picked up a couple of pins and 138 pounds, finishing the day at 2-1.

The Trenton Kids Wrestling Team spent its weekend at two tournaments.  At the Tonka Tough event in Kansas City, Brayden Hughs of Trenton finished in first place in the 14 and under, 125 pound age group.  Charlie Riley was fourth in 14 and under, 110 pounds.

Chillicothe hosted the “Dave Kinen Classic”, with Trenton grabbing four first-place finishes, with Blake Gannon in the 6 and under, 55 pounds; Ayden Ortega 8 and under, 60 pounds; Caleb Dixon 10 and under, 80 pounds; and Chase Foster 12 and under, 145 pounds.

Finishing second for Trenton were Owen Lowe, Kash Barlow, and Jacob Black.  Third place finishes were earned by Clayton Glidewell, Cooper Eaton, Braylee Barron, and Myles Griffin, with Jayla Bell grabbing a fourth place finish.
