Trenton grabs two individual firsts, 5th place team finish at Guardians Classic

Brookfield was first and Trenton fifth among eight schools in a wrestling tournament on Saturday in Lee’s Summit hosted by St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School.

Trenton had a pair of individual champions, with Kaden Owens pinning all five of his opponents to claim the 170 pound weight class, while Hunter McAtee pinned all four of his opponents to capture the 113 pound division.

Caleb Johnson was 4-1 to come in runner-up at 220 pounds.  Sam Gibson placed second at 182 pounds with a 3-2 record.  Gavin Chambers was 2-1 to finish third at 132 pounds.  Brice Gibler, with a 2-2 record, was fourth at 138 pounds.

Brookfield won the team title with 206 1/2 points.  Capital City was second at 198, just 1/2 point ahead of third place Fulton.  St. Michael the Archangel was fourth with 185 points, followed by Trenton’s 149.  Butler was sixth, with St. Joseph Lafayette seventh, and William Chrisman eighth.

Tonight (Monday night), Trenton will host the Albany Warriors and Palmyra Panthers in a 5:30 triangular, with a break in the schedule to follow as the Bulldog grapplers head into Christmas break: 

Chillicothe’s wrestling teams had five matches on Friday at the Moberly Spartan Duels.  Chillicothe went 1-4, with a victory over St. James 60-15.  The Hornets fell to Pleasant Hill 64-12, Bolivar 65-12, Helias Catholic 54-27, and Moberly 47-23.
