The Trenton High School boys tennis team took a 6-3 victory over the visiting Chariton (Iowa) Chargers on Monday afternoon, improving the Bulldogs dual record this springs to a perfect 5-0, handing the Iowa side their first loss of the season, in the third dual for Chariton.
The most competitive match of the day came at #4 singles, with Trenton’s Jeremy Elliott taking a 7-3 tiebreak round against Micah Thatcher, winning the head-to-head match by a score of 9-8. Trenton’s other singles triumphs came in more decisive fashion, with Nick Shields (#1) beating Stan Kutsel 8-1, Gabe Swann (#2) downing Billy Rouw 8-2, Creed Houghton (#3) an 8-3 win over Aaron Sullenger, and Isaac Harris (#5) taking an 8-1 decision against Logan Caudill.
Chariton’s only singles win came at #6, with Ty Leudtke downing Weston Otto, 8-1.
In doubles, the Chargers took two wins to Trenton’s one, with the Bulldogs win coming from the #1 entry of Shields and Houghton, 8-1 over Sullenger and Thatcher. The Chargers #2 team of Kutsel and Rouw beat Swann and Elliott 8-6, while Chariton’s team of Caudill and Leudtke downed Harris and Otto of Trenton at #3 doubles 8-2.
Also enjoying Monday’s superb weather day were the boy’s golf teams from Trenton, Putnam County, and Princeton, with those three schools locking up in a triangular at Trenton’s Riverside Country Club. The Midgets from Unionville had the best team score in the event, at 206, with Trenton second at 240, just ahead of the Princeton mark of 249. The top individual score, a 44, came from Putnam County’s Jayden Wyant.

Across town at Burleigh Grimes Field on Monday afternoon, the Trenton Bulldog baseball team hosted the North Andrew Cardinals in a Grand River Conference contest. North Andrew won the high scoring affair, 18-6, dropping Trenton’s spring record to 2-5 overall, and 2-2 in the GRC.
