The 8th ranked Trenton Lady Bulldogs are into a portion of their season that finds Brian Upton’s team facing teams multiple times, as Trenton, on Tuesday night, beat conference rival Polo for the third time this season, with a meeting with East Buchanan now set in the Thursday afternoon semifinal round.
The game with East Buchanan will rematch the two teams that met in the season opener at Trenton High School, won by the Lady Bulldogs two days prior to Thanksgiving. Â Tip will be 4:30 on Hot Country Z 101.7.
In the quarterfinal win against Polo, Ainsley Tolson had 17 points and Whitley Richman 13 for THS, now 15-2 on the season. Â East Buchanan was solid in taking down the host Penney Lady Hornets, 48-39, taking the possibility of a Trenton/Hamilton championship game for the second time in three weeks ‘off the table’. Â Pittsburg State bound senior Josie Fortney led East Buchanan with 25 points, while McKauley Prothero had 18 for the Lady Hornets.
The Hamilton boys, the tournament’s #1 seed, moved to the semifinals with a 64-40 win over the Polo Panthers, while the Lathrop Mules, in the closest game from Tuesday night, pulled the 5 vs. 4 seed upset of East Buchanan, 47-44.
