The Trenton Lady Bulldogs and Gallatin Bulldogs were two of four teams to win semifinal tests in Thursday’s action from the Lawson Invitational Tournament, joining the Penney Lady Hornets and Richmond Spartans in the championship pairings. The early weekend snowstorm moving through Missouri has postponed all Friday and Saturday games at Lawson High School, pushing the championship games to Monday night, with both to be aired live on Hot Country Z 101.7, as Tom Johnson has the play-by-play call.
In Thursday afternoon’s opener, the Trenton girls throttled an over-matched North Platte Lady Panther squad, 66-19, staying unbeaten. In action broadcast on Z 101.7, Ainsley Tolson paced Trenton with 22 points, while Maci Moore contributed 17, and Lexi Whitaker tossed in 11 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Grace Rice had six points to lead North Platte, with Trenton’s defense holding the Dearborn side to just four points in the second half.
Trenton, 14-0 on the season, will take on nemesis Penney High School of Hamilton in Monday night’s championship game (6 o’clock on Hot Country Z 101.7). Behind Nora Ford’s 23 points, nine from Graycen Prothero, and eight from Jessica Richman, the Lady Hornets beat Lawson on the Lady Cardinals home floor, 55-52. A 17-5 advantage for Hamilton in the second quarter proved critical in the semifinal triumph. Taylor Dolt had 19 points and Natalie Schnetzler 11 for Lawson.
Behind 14 points from Landon Corwin and 13 from Tristen Gibson, the Gallatin Bulldogs upset the top-seeded Lawson Cardinals, 57-52. Dylan Burns had 11 points for the Bulldogs, who advance into Monday night’s final (7:30 on Z 101.7) to take on Richmond, a 43-31 winner over Hamilton. Dionte Marquez had 12 points an Keyshaun Elliott 11 for the Spartans in the victory, while Ryan Cook had 13 points for the Hornets in defeat. Richmond’s record is now 9-4, with Gallatin improving to 8-5 going into the Monday night title encounter.
