With the district track and field meet for the Trenton Bulldogs coming up this Saturday, the THS teams traveled to the north side of St. Joseph on Thursday to participate in the Irish Relays at Lafayette High School.
The Lady Bulldogs, with 58.5 points, finished in fifth place in the 11 school field, while the Trenton boys, amassing only 19 points, finished in 8th place. The girls team championship was won by Richmond, with 122 points, followed by Chillicothe’s 99, with the Chillicothe boys ringing up 105 points to win a team championship, followed by Van Horn’s 100.
For Trenton’s girls, the top individual performance came from Ava Simpson in the distance runs, with a first-place finish in the 3200 meters at 13:21.18, and a runner-up finish in the 1600, with a time of 6:12.53. Shay Westerhof was third in the 100 meter dash and 7th in the 200 meter dash, with Courtney Kenyon 7th in the 400 meter dash.
Astrid Soriano was 7th in the 100 meter hurdles and 5th in the 300 meter hurdles, with the top finishes from the THS relays teams coming from the 4 by 400 and 4 by 800 squads, both in third place.
Kaegan Croy was fifth and Avery Clark 7th in the high jump, with Mirena King sixth in the triple jump.
Top ten finishes for the Trenton boys included 9th place in the 200 dash for Cameron Christy, eighth place for Levi Johnson in the 400, and 5th place for Andrew Huffstutter in the 800. The Bulldog relay teams had a solid day, with fourth place in the 4 by 200, fifth in the 4 by 100, sixth in the 4 by 800, and 7th place in the 4 by 400 race.
The Trenton High School track and field teams are back in St. Joseph for the Benton Relays on Tuesday, May 10th. Chillicothe High School will host the Class 3, District 8 meet this Saturday, May 14th, with participating schools that include Trenton, St. Pius X, KC Southeast, Richmond, Pembroke Hill, Notre Dame de Sion, KC Northeast, Maryville, Hogan Prep, Marion Kauffman Charter, KC Central, Cameron, and the host Chillicothe Hornets.
