Kearney ran away with the team title in the Plattsburg Wrestling Tournament, held on Saturday.  The Bulldogs amassed 380 1/2 points to finish 158 1/2 points ahead of second-place Lawson, which had 222.  Third place Gallatin was just three points out of second at 219.  Fourth place Brookfield scored 194 and fifth-place Trenton 149, followed by Plattsburg, Summit Christian Academy, eighth place Hamilton, Stanberry, and South Harrison.

There were 22 listings in the team standings, with Lawson, Rock Port, and Hamilton shown twice, for having both varsity and JV entries.

Trenton’s top finishers were Jadan Whitney at 195 pounds and Mason Owen at 220, with both finishing third.  Brice Gibler was fourth at 126 and Mark Trump fourth at 182 pounds.  Owen was 4-1, Whitney 3-2, Trump 2-2, and Gibler 2-3.

Trenton Head Coach Charlie Bacon said the Bulldogs team-wise, had a “pretty good day”.  He added there were “a lot of wrestler scoring points for the team and picking up bonus points with pins”.

Bacon noted both of Jadan Whitney’s losses were to the #1 ranked wrestlers in Classes 1 and 3.  They were to Brett Campbell of Summit Christian Academy and Brett Mordecai of Kearney.  Both are ranked first in their weight and class by MissouriWrestling.com.
