The Trenton Bulldogs, behind four touchdowns by senior fullback Sam Gibson, rebounded from a 40-point loss to Gallatin for a 48-0 win over South Harrison on Friday night at C.F. Russell Stadium.
In action heard on KTTN FM 92.3, THS took control early, with Gibson scoring on a 9-yard run with 7:32 remaining in the first quarter. After a stop by the Trenton defense, the home team got the football back, as senior quarterback Coleman Griffin tried to hit a fellow senior with a post pattern:Â
Up 14-0 heading into the second quarter, Trenton scored on Gibson’s second scoring run of the night, two plays into the new stanza:Â
Gibson added a 52 yard touchdown run later in the second quarter, with an 11 yard catch and run by Gabe Novak pushing the halftime lead to 35-0. Gibson had a 54 yard scoring run in the third quarter, with sophomore quarterback Mason Rongey racing in from 15 yards out with 7:26 remaining in regulation.
The win ends Trenton’s regular season with a record of 8-1, the program’s best since 2007. South Harrison, enduring a rare rebuilding year for a program usually in the GRC championship discussion, goes to 2-7. Trenton will host Lawson in a district quarterfinal contest on Friday, October 28th at 7 o’clock on Hot Country Z 101.7. South Harrison will travel to Unionville to play the Putnam County Midgets in a Class 1 district quarterfinal on October 28th, also at 7 o’clock.
