The Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) released its latest state rankings on Thursday morning, with the unbeaten Winston, by benefit of a loss by previously top-ranked Walnut Grove, moving to the #1 position in Class 1 boys. Â Walnut Grove lost to Logan-Rogersville, 74-58 on January 3rd, opening the door for the Redbirds to move up.
Walnut Grove only fell one spot to #2, followed by Glasgow, GRC Western Division leading North Andrew, and Advance.
Braymer and Jefferson hold the #8 and #9 spots in the poll for this week.
The defending state champion Hartville Eagles lead Class 2 boys, with nearby power Wellington-Napoleon at #8, and the Lewis and Clark Conference’s Knox County Eagles at #10.
In Class 3, Cardinal Ritter is top-ranked, with Sikeston at the head of the poll in Class 4, and Chamindade pacing Class 5.
The slow yet steady climb up the Class 3 girls ranking continues for the Trenton Lady Bulldogs, as the GRC Eastern Division leader, for the fourth consecutive poll release, moved up one spot. Â The 11-2 Lady Bulldogs are up to #7 in the state this week, and, along with #6 Monroe City, remain the only two Missouri schools north of Highway 24 in the Class 3 rankings. Â Defending state champion Strafford leads Class 3, with Clopton on top of Class 2. Â Scotland County is ranked ninth in Class 2, with Mid-Buchanan, despite a recent loss to Lathrop, holding at #10.
The Chillicothe Lady Hornets, featuring just one loss (to Class 5 Columbia Hickman) on their resume, rose two spots this week, to #3. Â Carl Junction leads Class 4, with defending state champion St. Joseph Benton at #8. Â
Columbia Hickman, the only team to defeat Chillicothe, is up to #2 in Class 5, behind just Jefferson City High School.
The Mercer Lady Cardinals moved up one spot in the Class 1 girls state rankings, as previous #1 ranked Jefferson’s recent loss dropped the Lady Eagles to #4. Â Mercer is up to #2, behind Walnut Grove. Â Leeton is third, with Mound City at #6, South Nodaway 8th, Norborne 9th, and Southwest Livingston ranked tenth.
