The Trenton Bulldog baseball team, in back-to-back games on Saturday, rallied in the 5th and 6th innings to claim the championship of the North Harrison Tournament played in Eagleville.
In the semifinals, Green City looked to be in prime position to move into the championship game, leading 7-2 after four innings, but a nine-run outburst by the Bulldogs in the sixth inning gave THS an 11-7 lead, and Sam Schilling held on the bottom of the 7th, holding the Gophers potent offense to three runs, as Trenton claimed an 11-10 victory.
Mason Owen slammed a home run in a 2-for-3, two run, two RBI effort for THS, while Hunter Dugan was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Spencer Harris 1-for-3 with two runs scored, and Avery Cooksey 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI’s for the Bulldogs.
Spencer Harris pitched the first three innings for Trenton, with Mason Owen pitching the 4th inning, and Schilling the final two frames for THS.
In the title game, the North Harrison Shamrocks broke open a 1-1 tie with a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning, and three in the 4th, but the Bulldogs had the last laugh, closing to within 5-4 with a 3-spot in the top of the 5th inning, and then slamming the door on the home team with an eight-run 6th inning rally, as Trenton won the tournament title with a 12-5 triumph.
Spencer Harris had a home run and scored three times for Trenton, with Jaren Whitney adding a triple and 3 RBI’s in a two-hit game. Avery Cooksey was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI’s.
Hunter Dugan pitched the first four innings for Trenton, with Cooksey firing a scoreless fifth, and Colston a scoreless 6th inning for the save.
