The Trenton Bulldogs, in the past few years under Head Coach Jeremy Austin, have built a little rivalry with the Richmond Spartans, a match between the teams built on close, hard-fought, and competitive matchups between THS and RHS.
That trend continued in a big way on Monday night, as the Bulldogs, behind a superb 26 point night from senior Spencer Harris, downed Richmond 61-59 in the third place game of the Lawson Invitational Tournament (LIT).
Harris hit four 3-point shots in a sizzling shooting display, while Connor Cotton added 14 points from the Bulldogs center position, with Lathan Croy contributing 8 points and Hunter Dugan six in the win.
Richmond was led by Tre’Von Alexander with 16 points and Andre Pritchett 12 in the loss.
The Trenton boys travel to Polo tonight (Tuesday night) to play the Panthers on KTTN FM 92.3, while Richmond’s next game is Thursday, hosting Northland Christian.
The boys championship at the Lawson Tournament was yet another instant classic between KCI rivals Hamilton and Lawson. Â Tournament MVP LaTroy Harper started the championship game with an alley-oop dunk, and finished it with a 32 point outburst, leading the second-ranked Hornets to a 62-58 win over the Cardinals. Â Wesley Pratt added 14 points for Hamilton, while Cody Glenn had 27 points and Zach Miller 14 for Lawson. Â The Hornets will host Chillicothe tonight (Tuesday night). Â The game is a make-up contest from early in the season, when the two Hornet teams were unable to meet because of Hamilton’s football run to the Class 1 state championship, played two days after Thanksgiving at Missouri State University in Springfield.
The Gallatin Bulldogs won the weather-delayed consolation final at Lawson, by a 43-41 final over Carrollton. Â Jett Simmons led the Bulldogs with 10 points, while Justin Thoeni had 12 points and Brett Pierson nine for the Trojans. Â Gallatin will travel to Maysville tonight (Tuesday night) for a GRC East double-dip with the Wolverines.
