Trenton boys win Nick Sloop Invitational at Lawson High School

The Trenton boys and Lawson girls took team championships at Monday’s Nick Sloop Invitational, hosted by Lawson High School.  The Plattsburg Tigers scored 73 points to Trenton’s 128, finishing second in the boys team standings, with Lawson with third place at 65.  The Lawson girls dueled with KCI Conference rival Plattsburg atop the girl’s leaderboard throughout the afternoon, with the Lady Cards racking up 144 points to Plattsburg’s 132.  Lexington was third with 65 points, just ahead of fourth place Trenton’s 63.

In the boy’s results, Braymer’s Jordan Miller won the high jump (5’10”), with Trenton’s Avery Cooksey taking second.  Trenton’s Travis Leeper, at 20 feet even, won the long jump.  Jordan Miller was second, and Trenton’s Austin Burkeybile fourth.  Miller of the Bobcats of Braymer found himself back in the win column in the triple jump, with an effort of 39 feet 5 inches.  Trenton’s Burkeybile was third.  Trenton’s Jadan Whitney had the best day of his freshman season, winning the discus toss with 126 feet, 1 inch.  Connor Cotton of Trenton was third.  Plattsburg’s Nick Kremer won the shot put competition at 44 feet, 9 inches.  Trenton’s Whitney was fourth.  Larry Richardson of Lawson out-threw Trenton’s Cole Schilling in the javelin throw, with 1st place Richardson at 117 feet, and runner-up Schilling at 110 feet, 8 inches.

In the 4 by 800 relay, Lawson finished first and Trenton second.  Trenton’s team of Wyatt Whittle, Travis Leeper, Jonathan Lamp, and Trey Shields won the 4 by 400 relay, beating runner-up Polo by 9 1/2 seconds.  Plattsburg beat Trenton by 0.24 seconds to win the 4 by 200 relay, while Trenton’s 4 by 100 relay, made up of Leeper, Lamp, Whittle, and Shields, ran 45.22, beating runner-up Plattsburg’s 45.49.

East Buchanan’s Logan Spencer won the 110 hurdles, with Trenton’s Matthew Sibbit in fourth place.  Nicholas Shovald of Lexington won the 300 hurdles race.

In the sprints, Lawson’s Seth Hendrickson won the 100 meter dash, Blake Wilson of Northland Christian won the 3,200, 1,600 and 800 meter races, with Zane Rottman of Trenton 4th in the 1600 and Daniel Rodriguez of Trenton fourth in the 3,200.  Kade Kennedy of Plattsburg won the 400 meter dash, with Trenton’s Wyatt Whittle in 3rd place.  Trenton’s Jonathan Lamp ran a time of 23.63 to win the 200 meter dash.  Trey Shields of Trenton was second.

In girl’s individual results, Lawson’s Claire Holles won the high jump, Fallon Hamilton of Lexington the the long jump title, Richmond’s Nicole Johnson won the triple jump with Trenton’s Maycie Mayfield in 4th place, while Anna Summers of Lexington was the discus throw champion with Trenton’s Salem Croy 2nd.  Ally Ockenfels threw for a title in the shot put, with her effort of 34 feet, 11 inches beating Richmond’s Sydney Stigall’s 33 feet, 5 inches.  Trenton’s Croy finished in fifth place.  Croy of the Lady Bulldogs finished second in the javelin throw, with her effort of 113 feet behind the 125 foot, 5 inch throw of Kelsie Lewis of Plattsburg.

Lexington won the 4 by 800 relay, with Trenton finishing 5th.  Trenton’s team of Thelma Guerrero, Whitley Richman, Hannah Mehrhoff, and Tenna Roberts, with a time of 4:25.89, won the 4 by 400 relay.  Plattsburg won the 4 by 200 meter relay, and 4 by 100 relay (Trenton was 4th in the 4 by 100).

Mallory Hughson of Braymer won the 100 meter hurdles, with Trenton’s Kayley Griffin in 4th place.  The 300 meter hurdles race went to Hughson as well, with a time of 49.22 seconds.  Hughson also won the 1,600 meter run, with a time of 5:44.53.

Nikita Smith of Lawson took the 100 meter dash, at 12.41 seconds.  She backed up the 100 win with the victory in the 200 meter dash, at 25.31 seconds.  Smith added a win in the 400 meter dash, running 57.29 seconds.  Lexington’s Abigail Beach was the 800 meter run winner.  Lawson got back into the win column in the 3200 meter run, as Mackenzi Stephan ran 13:24.43.
