Trenton boys win Brookfield Relays with 96 points, Lady Bulldogs tie for 2nd

The Trenton boys racked up 96 points on Friday afternoon to win the 20-team Brookfield Relays.  The host Brookfield Bulldogs were second with 75 points, while the Milan Wildcats, with 61 points, had a fifth-place showing.  The girls team title went to the Marceline Lady Tigers with 90 points, followed by Trenton and Schuyler County, both at 75 points, in a runner-up tie.  Brookfield’s Lady Dogs were fifth-place with 64 points, with Putnam County in sixth position, with 64 points.

Individual boys highlights included Milan’s Mauricio Curiel winning the high jump, Marceline’s Dylan Wheeler the pole vault, Putnam County’s Ryan Valentine the shot put, and Trenton’s Austin Burkeybile the long jump title.

Trenton won two of the four relay races, with the Bulldogs taking the title in the 4 by 100 and 4 by 400 races.  Milan won the 4 by 200 race (Trenton was 2nd), with Knox County winning the 4 by 800 relay (Trenton 3rd).

Carson Quint of Putnam County won the 100 meter dash, with Marceline’s Nicholas Cain winning the 300 meter hurdles.  Trenton won the two longest individual races, with Zane Rottman winning the 1600 meters and Daniel Rodriguez the 3200 meters.

Trenton’s only girls individual win came from senior Mason Hooyman in taking the pole vault competition.  Shayla Woodside finished 2nd in both and long jump and triple jump (won by Green City’s Brooke Littrell), with Whitley Richman finishing 2nd in the javelin toss.

Marceline’s greatest area of strength, in winning the team championship, was in winning the 4 by 200, 4 by 400, and 4 by 800 relays.  The Schuyler County Lady Rams won the 4 by 100 relay.  Trenton’s girls were 5th in the 4 by 100, 3rd in the 4 by 200, and 2nd in the 4 by 800.

Katelyn Conner of Green City won both the 100 and 300 hurdles, with Hannah Myers of Putnam County sweeping the 100 and 200 meter sprints. Vanessa Stimpson of Milan was 2nd in the 800 and 1600 meter runs, with MaryAnne Matzen of Brookfield taking the title in the 3200 meter race.
