Trenton boys snare runner-up finish; Whitney, Richman win individual events; at Smithville Relays

The Trenton Bulldogs scored 87 points on Friday afternoon, outdistancing the third-place Hogan Prep Rams by eight points to take the runner-up position at the Smithville High School Relays.  The Lathrop Mules amassed 130 points to win the team title.  Smithville was fourth and the Penney Hornets, with 61 points, in fifth place.

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs, with 48 1/2 points, finished in fifth place at Smithville.  The host Smithville Lady Warriors scored 132 points to win the girls team title, followed by Notre Dame de Sion (97 1/2), West Platte (90 1/2) and Lathrop (89 points).  The Lady Hornets from Penney High School, with 44 points, finished in sixth place.

In individual results, starting with the sprints, Lathrop claimed third place in the 100 meter dash, with Hunter Sloan and Jacque Gentzell finishing in those spots.  Josie Fortney of East Buchanan took the girls 100 meter title.  Lathrop’s Jason Wright was second in the 200 meter dash, with Trenton’s Wyatt Whittle seventh.  Trenton’s Lexi Whitaker was sixth in the girls 200 meter dash.  In the boys 400 meter dash, Penney’s Derek Dixon was third and Trenton’s Brian Ewing in fifth place.  Tegan Bruce of Penney was 7th and Shayla Woodside of Trenton 9th in the girls 400.  In the 800 meter run, Penney’s Andrew Ernat finished fourth, matching the finish put up by Lady Hornet freshman Nora Ford in the girls 800.  Tenna Roberts of Trenton High School was 8th.  In the 1600 meter run, Trenton’s Zane Rottman finished fifth.  Daniel Rodriguez of Trenton was 6th in the boys 3200 meter run., with Ayden Wayne of Gallatin in 7th place.

In the hurdles events, Penney senior Jacey Cook took the girls 100 meter hurdles title, with a time of 17.09 seconds.  Lathrop’s Hannah Jennings was 2nd.  The boys 110 meter hurdles title went to Lathrop’s Drake Lewis.  Trenton’s Matthew Sibbit was 4th.  In the 300 meter hurdles, Mackenzie Cantrell of Lathrop took the girls title, with Murphy Park of Penney in 5th place.  Whitley Richman of Trenton was 9th.  Brock Swindler of Penney went 41.44 seconds to win the boys title.  Trenton’s Carson Radcliff was third.

Both Trenton entries in the 4 by 100 relay finished 3rd.  The Trenton boys were 3rd and Penney boys 5th in the 4 by 200 relay.  The Lathrop Mules won both 4 by 200 races (girls and boys).  Lathrop swept the 4 by 400 relay races.   The Trenton boys were 4th and the Penney Lady Hornets third. The Penney boys were 2nd and Trenton Bulldogs 5th in the 4 by 800 relay (won by St. Pius X).  The Penney Lady Hornets were third in the girls 4 by 800 relay (won by Smithville).

Trenton sophomore Jadan Whitney, with a toss of 44 feet, 7 inches, took the title in the boys shot put, with Whitney finishing second in the discus toss.  Lathrop’s Deidra Sellers won the girls discus competition.  Trenton senior Whitley Richman won the javelin competition, throwing a best effort of 96 feet, 1 inch to set a personal best.  Haley Berghager of Lathrop was third.  
Lathrop took the boys high jump, with victory from Brock Lewis.  Mark Trump of Trenton was fifth.  Whitley Richman of THS finished second in the girls high jump to Trace Mosby of Smithville.  In the pole vault, Gallatin’s Tanner Johnson grabbed a victory for the GRC’s Bulldogs, with Trenton’s Isaac Harris in third place.  Mason Hooyman and Cassidy Trump of Trenton High School finished 2nd and 3rd (tie) for the Bulldog girls, behind Katie Wolfe of Savannah, winner of the event.
The long jump winners were Brock Swindler of Hamilton and Tracy Mosby of Smithville.  On the girls side, Murphy Park of Hamilton was 3rd.  For the boys, Austin Burkeybile of Trenton was 5th.  Hamilton’s Swindler was second in the triple jump, with Trenton’s Shayla Woodside earning a 4th place triple jump finish for the Lady Bulldogs.
Fifteen schools made up the Smithville Relays field.
