The Trenton Bulldogs, with two minutes remaining in the second quarter of Tuesday night’s Grand River Conference game at Polo, led the upset-minded Panthers by only four points (19-15). Â However, Trenton finished the half with a nine point run, and by the time the fourth quarter had started, the game went to “running clock”, as the Bulldogs improved to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in the GRC East with a 62-30 win, broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.
Spencer Harris had 22 points to lead THS, with Corbyn Guile scoring 21, and Connor Cotton 12. Â Polo, dropping to 6-10 on the season and 0-5 in conference play, was paced by 12 points from James Fleener.
The win keeps Trenton even with Putnam County for first place in the eastern division, as the Midgets, behind 40 points from Calvin Heidenwith, won at Princeton 62-50. Â In other GRC East finals, Maysville upset Gallatin on the Wolverine home floor, 57-50, while the Milan Wildcats, behind 29 points from Wyatt Bohle and 26 from Ryan Dabney, won at South Harrison 67-65, as the ‘Cats move to 3-0 in the GRC, 1/2 game behind Trenton and Putnam County.
The Trenton girls rolled to a 56-18 victory over the Polo Lady Panthers, as Whitley Richman had 17 points and Mykah Hurley 11 for the Lady Bulldogs, now 13-2 overall and 4-0 in GRC East play. Â Trenton continues to control the girl’s race, with the other seven schools in the chasing position. Â The Princeton Lady Tigers moved to 2-2 in conference with a 56-50 home win over Putnam County. Â Jaelyn Thomas led the Lady Tigers with 16 points, with Payton Goodin scoring 13, and Haley Johnson 10. Â Putnam County had Jade Varner with 18 points while Jordan Hollon added 10. Â The Gallatin girls claimed a 56-10 win at Maysville, while the South Harrison Lady Bulldogs, who play at Trenton Thursday night (6:00 PM) on KTTN, beat visiting Milan 67-45.
In the GRC Western Division, Stanberry swept a doubleheader with North Andrew, with the Lady Bulldogs winning 65-35, and SHS winning a boy’s showdown, 65-59. Â Worth County took a pair of “W’s” at Albany, 52-37 in the girls game and 64-36 for the boys. Â King City swept Pattonsburg on the Wildkat home floor, 68-23 in the girls game and 70-42 in the boys contest. Â The Braymer girls beat St. Joseph Christian 45-21, while the Lion boys picked up the upset of the night, knocking off 8th-ranked (Class 1 MBCA) Braymer, 59-43.
