The Trenton Bulldogs, seeded #2 in the Hamilton Tournament, started slowly in Monday night’s quarterfinal game against the South Harrison Bulldogs, but a significant surge of momentum over the middle two quarters was plenty enough for THS, in a 71-45 victory, heard on Hot Country Z 101.7.

South Harrison, behind strong play by Treyton Campbell, led 14-12 after one quarter, but Trenton opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run, and never again led go of the lead.  In fact,  by the time the 4th quarter commenced, the Trenton advantage had ballooned to 31.

Connor Cotton led THS with 20 points, while Spencer Harris added 15, Corbyn Guile 11, and Lathan Croy 10.  Dylan Harris added a trio of 3-point shots for the Bulldogs (for nine points), who advance into the semifinals to play the #3 seed Braymer Bobcats (9 PM Thursday), as Braymer downed Gallatin on Monday night, 54-39.

South Harrison, in falling to 7-9 on the season, was paced by Campbell’s 18 points.  The two teams (South Harrison and Trenton) will rematch at Trenton High School on Wednesday, February 1st at 7:30.

The girls team from South Harrison opened the 2017 Hamilton Tournament with an upset win, as the #6 seed Lady Bulldogs took down Lathrop, 40-35.  Katey Wilhelm led SHHS with 16 points with Neiley Karns adding 11.  Brooke Huitt paced the Lady Mules with 15 points while Deidra Sellers had 11.

South Harrison will play Gallatin in a Thursday night (7:30) semifinal at Penney High School.  Gallatin fought off a slow start to beat Braymer in the girls second quarterfinal from Monday night, 64-46.  The game between the Lady Bulldog squads will be a rematch from last Friday, when GHS beat SHHS in GRC East regular season play at Gallatin High School.

A pair of consolation semifinals are set for Wednesday night, with the Braymer Lady Bobcats challenging Lathrop at 7:30, followed by the South Harrison vs. Gallatin boys match at 9:00.

The #5 seed Penney Lady Hornets, coming off a recent runner-up finish at the Lawson Tournament, look for a victory on their home floor, opening the second night of quarterfinal play against East Buchanan at 4:30 tonight (Tuesday night).  The 6 o’clock game featured the Lathrop boys against #4 seed East Buchanan.  The state-ranked, top-seeded Trenton Lady Bulldogs take on Polo for the third time this season at 7:30 tonight, with the final game of the night bringing together the top-seeded Penney Hornet boys against the Polo Panthers, a contest featuring high-scoring forwards in Hamilton’s LaTroy Harper and Polo’s James Fleener, who comes off a school record 46 points in a Friday night win over Princeton.
