Trenton beats Chillicothe 5-0, claiming District 15 tennis title

The Trenton Bulldogs shutout the visiting Chillicothe Hornets on Wednesday afternoon, with the #1 seed improving to 14-2 on the season and earning a Class 1 sectional berth with a 5-0 tennis victory over their rivals from the south.

THS was particularly dominant in singles competition, with two of the six scheduled matches having been completed when the Bulldogs reach the five win mark, ending the duel.  At #4 singles, Tucker Otto defeated Jackson Reeter 6-1, 6-0, with the Bulldogs taking the #6 singles match, as Isaac Dixon rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Parker Savage.

The doubles match were slightly more competitive, with the Bulldogs going 3-0 against the Hornets.  At #1 doubles, Trent Villacampa teamed with Bradyn Sager for an 8-3 triumph against Jadon Collins and Gabriel Peterson.  In the #2 doubles match, Maverick Sole teamed up with Otto for an 8-4 victory over Joshua Adams and Andrew Snider.  In the #3 doubles match, Victor Markell, working with Dixon, rolled to an 8-1 win over Jackson Reeter and Parker Savage.

With Trenton moving into the Class 1 playoffs with a mark of 14-2, Chillicothe’s season ends at 8-6.

Joining Trenton in a four-team tournament to determine a spot in the Show-Me Showdown will be District 13 champion Warrensburg, District 14 champion St. Pius X, and District 16 champion Savannah.  Warrensburg beat Lafayette County 5-1, St. Pius X defeated Excelsior Springs 5-0, and Savannah downed rival Maryville 5-2 in Wednesday’s district final action.

On Monday, Trenton will host the sectional round, with THS taking on St. Pius X and Warrensburg playing Savannah at Trenton High School.  The two winners will play on the same afternoon in the Class 1 state quarterfinal.
