Trenton 8th grade girls rack up 131 points, win the Lathrop Invitational

The Trenton Middle School 8th grade girls track and field team scored 131 points on Thursday afternoon, beating the runner-up score of 97 from Hamilton, to win a team championship in the Lathrop Middle School Invitational.  Lawson, with 79 points, was third, followed by North Platte (58) and Lathrop (54).

For the TMS 8th graders, 1st place finishes were earned by Maci Moore in the shot put (38’8″) and discus (76’10”), Gwyneth Foster in the 100 meter dash (13.9 seconds), and Janessa Van Hoozer in the 1600 meter run (6:23.31).

The Trenton girls swept the three relay races, as Emma Curtis, Emilee Lovell, Maci Moore, and Lexi Gott ran 57.17 seconds in the 4 by 100, Gott, Lovell, Evy McCullough, and Curtis a time of 2:03.28 in the 4 by 200, while Gott, Curtis, McCullough, and Foster ran 4:39 flat to win the 4 by 400.

Curtis was 2nd place in the high jump, with Foster 2nd in the 400 meter dash, and Van Hoozer 2nd in the 800 meter run.  Haylee Coplen finished 3rd in the pole vault for the Trenton 8th grade girls.

With 11 teams in the 7th grade girls competition, Trenton was 7th, with 31 points.  The 7th grade team champion was Lathrop, with 107 points.  Top finishes for the TMS 7th graders were 2nd place in the triple jump for Gracyn Rongey, who added a 5th place finish in the 1600 meter run, 4th place in the shot put for Shaylee Mullins, and 4th place in the 4 by 400 relay for the team of Elliana Gant, Katie Markell, Mallory Sole, and Gracyn Rongey.

The Trenton 8th grade boys and 7th grade boys both finished 3rd in their respective divisions at Lathrop.  The only individual win for the 8th graders came from Quincy Griffin, who ran 26.7 seconds to win the 200 meter dash.  Griffin was 2nd in the triple jump, with Austin Bouzek 2nd in the pole vault, Camdyn Leeper 2nd in the 400 meter dash, and Chase Otto 2nd in both the 800 meter and 1600 meter runs.  The 4 by 400 relay team of Bouzek, Roeder, VonBurg, and Leeper finished 2nd as well.

For the Trenton 7th grader boys, Tyler Siemer was 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in the 200 meter dash, with Keegan Brown 2nd in the pole vault, while the team of Groves, Crawford, Burkeybile, and Schilling was 3rd in the 4 by 400 relay.

The Trenton Middle School Bulldogs travel to St. Joseph Christian on Monday for their next track and field meet, starting at 4 PM on April 24th.
